Morgan Stanley Backs $300 Million Fund To Install Residential Solar Print E-mail
Source: Forbes
Thursday, May 03, 2012

Morgan Stanley is backing a $300 million fund to finance installation of residential photovoltaic systems - yet another sign that the turmoil roiling solar panel manufacturers has been a boon for installers. Plummeting costs for solar panels have driven several solar manufacturers and developers into bankruptcy in recent months but the 75% price plunge of photovoltaic modules in the past three years have made rooftop solar increasingly attractive to homeowners and financiers like Morgan Stanley.

Invitation Letter to WREF 2012 Print E-mail
Source: American Solar Energy Society (ASES)
Thursday, April 05, 2012

Dear Solar Supporter,

The advantages of attending the 2012 World Renewable Energy Forum (WREF) are getting better by the day.  I'm happy to announce that the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) have each approved more than 30 sessions at WREF for continuing-education and learning-unit credit

Yes, by attending, an architect can come up to speed on the state of the art in solar and sustainable design, and get all the required AIA Learning Unit credits for an entire year.  Though we have offered AIA LU credits at past conferences, this is the first time we've also gotten approval for GBCI learning credits.

It's no secret that green building is a great way to increase efficiency while lowering impacts in our daily lives.  That's why I'm proud to say that WREF is able to contribute to the efforts by empowering our sustainable-conscious engineers, architects, builders and installers.  Before I forget, note that WREF will host the annual meetings of the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE) and the Solar Buildings Division of ASES.

Now, all I want to know is, will I see you at WREF 2012?

Sincerely,

David Panich
Chair, ASES Solar Buildings Division

Industry shadows hint at new solar world order Print E-mail

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Temperatures plunged in San Jose after last week's US commerce department preliminary ruling took the heat out of the US trade dispute with China. Countervailing tariffs on imports did not have the chilling effect that the US industry feared, with lower than expected ranges set between 2.9% and 4.73%. Even the US commerce department's addition of an anti-dumping levy investigation on May 17 is unlikely to bring the total tariffs up to the 20-30% predicted by some analysts.
