City of Winslow proclaims Solar, Wind and Sustainability Week - October 1st to October 7th

Weeklong activity, Winslow Public Library
On display are materials for all ages on topics about renewable resources. We recently purchased with a LSTA grant from the Arizona State Library, "Going Green and save your own 'green': Methods and strategies for reusing, recycling and renewing resources." We know everyone will benefit from the books and video resources available, their ultimate information recycler.
Thursday, October 1st, 2009, 2:00 pm City of Winslow at the City hall building (free event)
We will start solar week by learning how Winslow is becoming a model sustainability community. (Learn about recycling, water management and many other city projects) This is an informative interesting presentation that you will not want to miss.
APS. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with an APS representative who will provide information on going solar plus give an overview on the many energy saving opportunities from APS. If you have ever considered solar, or just want to learn how to save money on your electric bill, this is a must attend event. Free light bulbs.
Saturday, October 3, 2009, 11:00 am La Pasada Gardens (free event)
Take a nature walk at La Pasada. Patrick, head gardener will be giving a tour and lecture on the water tolerant plants and native vegetation that is currently being cultivated in the vast sustainable gardens. Plan to enjoy a beautiful educational experience.
Saturday, October 3, 2009, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Homolovi State Park (park fees apply)
Join a ranger at Homolovi Ruins State Park to learn how the ancient people of the Southwest worked with this arid environment to become renowned farmers. Meet at the visitor center for this talk and an easy stroll. Wear comfortable shoes and a hat.

Learn how a historic church has been retrofitted with solar and sustainable living concepts. This urban homestead features over 100 sustainable features. See a solar system in action, solar garden fountains and security lights, solar cooking, bio intensive year round gardening, hydroponic gardening, rain water harvesting and storage, and a swimming pool heated by solar plus see a RV powered by solar and wind.
